As many of you already know, Our science education teams have been working hard toward the launch of a climate blog that will include first hand personal accounts from individuals around the globe who reside in regions already deeply directly impacted by the consequences of climate change. As we tinker away at the final details, (with the updated anticipation of a spring 2012 launch), we would like to take this time to thank the many climate scientists around the globe for their most generous support of the project via the ongoing lending of their vast knowledge & expertise And invite our readers to begin making their submissions:

Update On The Allen Telescope Array Re-Start

Volunteers from SETIQuest, along with others, arrived at the array this past week to begin the process of getting ATA back into operation. The cob webs were dusted off, the grass around it was mowed and a few small parts, were sent out to the shop for repair. Though 5 months is a long time to have an outdoor array such as this sit in hibernation without ongoing maintenance, (taking weather & other factors into consideration), -the equipment actually seems to have fared pretty well. The Allen Telescope Array

As you may know, with our confirmed extra solar planet count quickly drawing much closer to being in the thousands and the Kepler mission already having turned up so many interesting exo earth candidates in the habitable zone, it is more important than ever to have radio scopes trained in the direction of those planets to listen for possible signs of intelligent life.

With this in mind, A few years ago, The SETI Institute built an array of telescopes that would be primarily used to listen for signs of intelligent life beyond earth. While this was indeed a huge, important, step forward for SETI -Sadly, In April 2011, the array was forced to shut down due to insufficient available funds from its partner, RAL, to keep it in continuous operation.

The good news is all is not lost. Recently, Actress Jodie Foster, along with 2000 other caring individuals, donated enough money to get ATA back into operation and keep it running until the end of the year. However, to keep the Allen Telescope Array in operation until 2013, (when the next allocation of federal & state funding suplementals kick in for RAL), Your Help is Desperately Needed! Don’t let mankinds potentially most important project in human history simply become home to wayward birds & insects for the next couple of years!
